Wild Dogs playing at Okavango Delta, Botswana

Okavango Delta - Botswana

Season - Winter

Average Temperature for July - 16 Celcius

What to do ?

Perfect safari and photography conditions in the Delta, with everything from red lechwe to wild dogs running through the shimmering water.

Why go ?

The summer rains in the region have reflooded the Delta's meandering waterways to form huge floodplains that are ideal for water-based activities like mokoro rides and powerboat excursions.

When to book ?

The Delta is always popular but doubly so during peak season when the cool, dry weather makes for excellent game viewing. We'd suggest getting in touch at least six months in advance; more if you have your heart set on a specific lodge or camp.

Masai Mara National Reserve - Kenya

Season - Winter

Average Temperature for July - 19 Celcius

What to do ?

Wildebeest, wildebeest and more wildebeest! Closed tailed by massive Nile crocodiles, prides of lions, stalking leopards and lightning fast cheetahs.

Why go ?

The Wildebeest Migration, of course. By mid-year, most of the herds should have crossed the Mara River and are munching their way across Kenya. The combination of peak safari season, dry weather and wildebeest wherever you look is hard to beat.

When to book ?

We're not exaggerating when we suggest up to a year in advance for the Mara's private concessions, which give you a superior experience. The mid-year part of the Migration is East Africa's hottest ticket and lodges fill up quickly. If you can't manage to plan a year in advance, then try not to leave it later than six months before you travel as you may not be able to get your first choice of accommodation.
